Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our GOTS certified organic cotton bedding — from certification and care to sizing, shipping and our 5-year guarantee.
- What is GOTS certification?
- GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is the leading independent standard for organic fibres. It certifies that the cotton is organically grown and that every stage of processing — spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing — meets strict environmental and social criteria. When bedding is GOTS certified, you know it is genuinely organic from farm to finished product, not just labelled that way.
- Is organic cotton hypoallergenic?
- Organic cotton is grown and processed without the synthetic pesticides, harsh chemicals and residues found in conventional cotton, which makes it a much better choice for sensitive skin, eczema and allergy sufferers. Our allergy-free range goes further with a tight weave that creates a barrier against dust mites and allergens.
- How is organic cotton different from conventional cotton?
- Conventional cotton is one of the most chemically intensive crops in the world, relying on genetically modified seed, synthetic pesticides and large volumes of water. Organic cotton uses non-GM seed, no synthetic pesticides, and far less water, and it protects the health of the farmers and communities who grow it. The result is a cleaner, softer, more sustainable fibre.
- What certifications do your products carry?
- Our organic cotton is GOTS certified (Ecocert licence number 159495) and our fabrics are tested to OEKO-TEX standards for harmful substances. These certifications cover both the environmental integrity of the cotton and the safety of the finished textile.
- Do you ship to New Zealand?
- Yes. New Zealand customers can shop our dedicated NZ store at ecolinen.co.nz for local pricing and delivery. Orders within Australia ship from our NSW warehouse.
- Do you offer free shipping?
- Yes — we offer free standard shipping on Australian orders over $200. Orders are dispatched quickly from our NSW warehouse.
- How long will my order take to arrive?
- Orders are typically dispatched within 1–2 business days from NSW. Delivery times then depend on your location, with most metropolitan Australian addresses receiving orders within a few business days. You will receive tracking details once your order ships.
- What thread count is best for sheets?
- Thread count matters less than fibre quality. A well-made organic cotton sheet in the 300–500 thread count range using long-staple cotton will feel smoother, breathe better and last longer than a cheaper sheet with an inflated thread count. We choose weaves for durability and comfort rather than marketing numbers.
- What is the difference between linen and cotton sheets?
- Cotton sheets are smooth, soft and easy to care for, and they get softer with every wash. Linen (made from flax) has a relaxed, textured feel, is exceptionally breathable and temperature-regulating, and develops a beautiful lived-in softness over time. Both are natural, breathable and long lasting — the choice comes down to the feel you prefer.
- Are your products safe for sensitive skin and eczema?
- Yes. Because our cotton is organically grown and free from harmful chemical residues, and our fabrics are OEKO-TEX tested, our bedding is a gentle choice for sensitive skin, eczema and allergies. Our allergy-free range is designed specifically for allergy sufferers.
- How should I wash and care for organic cotton bedding?
- Wash in cool to warm water (up to 40°C) on a gentle cycle with a mild, eco-friendly detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners, which coat the fibres. Tumble dry on low or line dry in shade. Organic cotton actually softens and improves with washing.
- How do I care for flax linen?
- Wash flax linen in cool to warm water on a gentle cycle and tumble dry on low or line dry. Linen is naturally wrinkle-relaxed, so there is no need to iron unless you prefer a crisp finish. Like organic cotton, it becomes softer with every wash.
- Do your sheets get softer over time?
- Yes. Genuine organic cotton and flax linen both soften with each wash while remaining strong and durable, so your bedding feels better the longer you own it.
- What size sheets do I need?
- We make bedding in all standard Australian sizes from Single through to Super King. Because mattress depths vary, check our size guide for exact fitted-sheet and quilt-cover dimensions before ordering.
- What is the difference between a quilt cover and a duvet cover?
- They are the same thing. "Quilt cover" and "duvet cover" both describe the removable cover that encloses your quilt or duvet insert. In Australia the term "quilt cover" is most common.
- What does your 5-year guarantee cover?
- Our premium organic cotton bedding is backed by a 5-year guarantee against faults in materials and workmanship under normal domestic use. It reflects our confidence that quality organic cotton, properly made, is built to last.
- What is your returns policy?
- If something is not right, contact us and we will help. Unused items in original condition can be returned within our stated returns window for an exchange or refund. Full details are on our returns page.
- Where is ecoLinen made and where is the cotton grown?
- Our organic cotton is grown by farming partners in India, and we manage the entire supply chain from seed to finished product with no middlemen. ecoLinen is an Australian company founded by Tim and Jen, based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
- Are your dyes and finishes chemical-free?
- GOTS certification strictly limits and controls the dyes and processing chemicals that can be used, prohibiting the toxic substances common in conventional textile manufacturing. Our fabrics are also OEKO-TEX tested for harmful substances, so what reaches your skin is safe.
- Can hotels or businesses order in bulk?
- Yes. ecoLinen supplies many of Australia’s finest resorts, spas and hotels, and trade pricing is available. Get in touch through our hospitality enquiry page to discuss wholesale and commercial orders.
- Where do you ship?
- We ship Australia-wide from our NSW warehouse. New Zealand customers are served by our dedicated store at ecolinen.co.nz. Shipping options and costs are shown at checkout.
- Why choose organic bedding if I have no allergies?
- Beyond skin health, choosing GOTS certified organic bedding means supporting farming that avoids toxic pesticides, uses less water, protects growers’ health and produces a naturally breathable, durable, better-feeling fibre. It is a better choice for your sleep and for the planet.
